Ingredients

  • Whole moong dal - 2 cups
  • Cooking oil - 3 table spoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 2 teaspoon
  • Red chili - 1 no.
  • Curry leaf - 2 spring
  • Garlic - 4 clove
  • Onion - 1 medium sized
  • Green chili - 2 no.
  • Tomato - 1 no.
  • Chili powder - 2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - teaspoon
  • Salt - for taste
  • Coriander leaf - 3-4 spring
  • Butter or ghee - 1 spoon
Preparation
  • Wash and soak dal (preferably for 2 hours)
  • Roughly chop garlic, onion, tomato and green chilies
Cooking
  • Boil moong dal almost to mash-able consistency
  • Heat oil in a frying pan
  • Add mustard seeds, cumin, curry leaves, red chili one by one and allow it to temper
  • Add garlic and saute until it turns mild brown
  • Add onion and saute until it start to turn brown
  • Add turmeric and chili powder
  • Add tomato and cook
  • Add the tempered mixture to boiled dal and heat for 3-4 minutes
  • Add salt and check for taste
  • Top with butter and sprinkle coriander leaves

Notes
  • Its good if you could allow the dal to boil until mashy consistency; however if you are in hurry or wish to save time, run dal in a mixie or blender once 80% cooked & continue cooking
