l Whole moong dal fry

- Whole moong dal - 2 cups
- Cooking oil - 3 table spoon
- Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin - 2 teaspoon
- Red chili - 1 no.
- Curry leaf - 2 spring
- Garlic - 4 clove
- Onion - 1 medium sized
- Green chili - 2 no.
- Tomato - 1 no.
- Chili powder - 2 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - teaspoon
- Salt - for taste
- Coriander leaf - 3-4 spring
- Butter or ghee - 1 spoon
- Wash and soak dal (preferably for 2 hours)
- Roughly chop garlic, onion, tomato and green chilies
- Boil moong dal almost to mash-able consistency
- Heat oil in a frying pan
- Add mustard seeds, cumin, curry leaves, red chili one by one and allow it to temper
- Add garlic and saute until it turns mild brown
- Add onion and saute until it start to turn brown
- Add turmeric and chili powder
- Add tomato and cook
- Add the tempered mixture to boiled dal and heat for 3-4 minutes
- Add salt and check for taste
- Top with butter and sprinkle coriander leaves
Notes
- Its good if you could allow the dal to boil until mashy consistency; however if you are in hurry or wish to save time, run dal in a mixie or blender once 80% cooked & continue cooking
